I am constantly learning. As an entrepreneur, do you consciously choose to experience new things? By doing this, you are actively trying to grow your business.
This topic is on my mind this week as I leave for the Insane Productivity Conference in San Diego. Hosted by Darren Hardy, one of the leading speakers and advisors to entrepreneurs, he is the author of “The Compound Effect” and “The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster.”
I always look forward to events and conferences like this Insane Productivity Conference. It gets my mind racing in the best way.
Have you done a vision statement for 2017? It may seem early for those who are familiar with the concept, but there really is no time like the present for taking the time to document your goals and aspirations for your business.
If you are unfamiliar with a vision statement, it is the forward thinking documentation of where you'll be in the future. You can say one year from now, or even five years. All that matters is that you visualize the future and write the statement in such a way that it is obvious that you achieved your goals.
One of my team members once pointed out that the company was growing in the wrong direction. As a manic entrepreneur, I was adding to the company very quickly without regard to the core of our business or our mission. She pointed out that the growth was horizontally, like a shrub, instead of vertically like a tree. The company offered more options to clients and had multiple product lines, but now we were distracted, overworked and not profiting from the growth like we could have had we only concentrated on our core business.
Of all the ways I have worked over the years, bootstrapping is my favorite. Partners and investors can complicate the process, and there is no substitute for the team work and creativity that comes from having to find a way to make your business work.
As an entrepreneur you should feed your brain every day. Just like you need good nutrition, your brain craves guidance and daily information to help you grow as a business leader. Here is one of my favorite people to follow for brilliant ideas and inspiration: Darren Hardy.
Are you creating the content your customers, clients and community want? As a leader in your industry, are you putting yourself out there with articles, events, or online opportunities to help solidify you as an expert in your field?
Creating a platform for your message just may be the most important thing you do for your business.
No entrepreneur is an island. You don't try to run the day-to-day of your business alone, why would you settle for having to make big decisions or work through issues without a support system?
We have an idea in the shower at 7 a.m. and by 8 a.m., it’s “officially implemented.” Often (maybe never?) these new ideas are not well thought out, tested and vetted with the team.
